Introduction – Sri Nimbarka Sampradaya and Sri Golok Dham Ashram

From time immemorial, the wise have saught the ultimate truth. In ancient Bharata, the Land of the Nobles, the Vedic Seers delved deep into the glory of the unpercievable world. They returned with the immortal verses of the Veda. Yet, due to the passage of time, most of the philosophical parts have dissappeared, leaving only the ritualistic portion. The philosophical conclusions to the Veda are found in the Upanishads. The teachings therein are referred to as the teachings of Vedanta. Due to the highly incomprehendable nature of the subject matter (God!), an incarnation known as Sri Veda Vyasa descended upon the earth at the beginning of Kali Yuga and composed the Vedanta Sutras:- the Aphorisms on the Supreme.

In this day and age, assailed with useless knowledge and an incapacity of focusing on one topic for any useful length of time, the five main Sampradaya Pravartaka Acharyas (the Founding Acharyas of the Five main Vedantic traditions or Sampradayas) provided the main interpretations upon which even a dullard like myself may be able to comprehend the timeless teachings of the ancient Seers regarding the one unifying principle – Parabrahman – God Almighty.

Four of the main Sampradaya Pravartaka Acharyas are Vaishnava: Sri Nimbarkacharya (50 years prior to Shankaracharya – therefore either ca.500BCE or 7/8CE, though traditionally he is thought to have been incarnated 5104 years ago), Ramanuja (11th Century CE), Madhva (13th Century CE) and Vallabha (16th Century). Sri Shankaracharya (8th Century CE) is Smarta (a monist philosophy focused on approaching the Lord through initially pantheism and then extreme monism).

All the Vedantic Sampradayas were established by the Lord Himself, representing the many valid views that He has allowed us to view Him. The strength of Vedic Dharma is that it is a synthesis of completely different philosophies which work (mostly) in harmony to preserve the scripturally endorsed science of the Lord against the superstitious multitude which have sprung up for their own fame and profit.

Bhagavan Shri Nimbarkacharya Ji Maharaj

Bhagavan Shri Nimbarkacharya Ji

Sri Nimbarkacharya is the incarnation of the Sudarshana Chakra of God Almighty Sri Radha Krsna, who appeared on the earth 50 years prior to the advent of Sri Shankaracharya. Sri Nimbarkacharya was the first to scripturally prove that the highest essence of God was Sri Radha Krsna, and that scripturally informed devotion is the only way to achieve liberation from suffering and enter into ceaseless bliss.

Bhagavan Sri Nimbarkacharya Ji

The Lord has taken pity on this lowly servant by allowing me initiation into this wonderful treasure-trove of relatively unexplored knowledge, wisdom and spirituality through the medium of the most revered, His Divine Grace Dharmaratna Swami Shri Gopal Sharan Devacharya Ji Maharaj, the founder of Shri Golok Dham Ashram in Vrindavan and New Delhi. He is the 52nd Spiritual Master in the scripturally authorised tradition of the Nimbarka Sampradaya in the sub-devision of the Svabhurama Devacharya Dvara.

On these few pages, I hope to present some day-to-day updates on Shri Golok Dham and Shri Sadgurudev Ji Maharaj’s activities, together with any new research that I can make available regarding our wonderful Sampradaya.

  1. Radhe Radhe,

    Dandavat pranam!

In our scriptures of the Nimbark Sampradaya it is stated that Nimbark Bhagavan appeared 5104 years ago. And not 8th Century CE.

Four years ago Nimbark Acharya’s 5100 year anniversary was held in Jaipur in the presence of Jagatguru Nimbarkacharya Shreeji Maharaj and many other acharyas. This Nimbark jayanti festival kept going for almost a week.

    Shri Golokdham ki Jaya!

    Radhe Radhe,
    Bansimohan Sharan

  2. Bansimohan Ji, Jay Shri Radhe!

True, according to the Bhavisya puran, Bhagavan Nimbarka incarnated 5104 years ago; yet according to research into his written work, he is 50 years before Adi Shankara. The date given above reflects the western date for Adi Shankara. The traditional date for Shankaracharya is 5th Century BCE; and according to that, Shri Nimbarka Bhagavan’s incarnation occurred in the 6th Century BCE.

Whatever the case, whether 5104 years ago, or 6th Century BCE or 8th Century CE, Shri Nimbarka Bhagavan is the Adi Jagadguru and the first Vedantic Vaisnava Acharya of the four bonafide Vaisnava Sampradayas.

    Jay Shri Radhe!
    Vrajavihari Sharan

  5. Radhee radhee! Dandavats. I am from Mexico is possible that i present to you some questions about your philosophy? I used to belong to the gaudiya sampradaya and i am very confuse about this vaishnava siddhanta. Different ashrams have different statements! Thank you in advanced. namadeva das

  6. Radhe Radhe! Can someone answer this question? Where do the jeevas come from? From Vainkuntha, Goloka, the brahmayjoty or impersonal Brahman, the tatastha shakti or where? Do they have form or not?
    namadeva das

    • Hare Krsna Prabhu!
The jivas are the ‘tathastha shakti’ of Sri Krsna Himself, this is confirmed in the Gita,’mamaivamso jiva-bhutah: (bg.15.7).Krsna has infinite energies. You can compare His energies to the particle of sun rays(photons). He imparts different constitution/nature to this infinite spectrum of photons. Each photon being a spirt soul. Therefore in this variegated spectrum of spirit souls with different constitution/natures there can be a particular variety that has the nature of coming under the spell of Maya or turning towards Krsna. There being no third option for the soul. When the soul comes under the spell of Maya it is called ‘conditioned’.In this state the soul considers himself as a product of material nature, and considers interacting with material nature as the be all and end all of life. When he turns his consciousness towards Krsna he is called ‘unconditioned’or pure soul.In this state he considers himself to be a part and parcel of Krsna and his only refuge. He constantly remembers Him and offers every thought and action as an offering to Him.The degree to which the soul detaches itself from Maya to that degree it is ‘unconditioned’.
Vaikuntha,Golok vrindavan,Brahmajyoti etc are all created from the energy of Krsna.Golok vrindavan is the highest position in Vaikuntha.Spirt souls are originally residents of Vaikuntha where as pure(unconditioned) souls we were engaged in full Krsna consciousness. However we still have the independence to turn away from Krsna consciousness. When we choose to do that,at that very moment we come under the grip of Maya devi. And since Maya devi controls this cosmic manifestation(under the superintendence of Krsna),we arrive in this material world ‘pretending’that we are ‘independent’ of Krsna and that there is no need to engage in Krsna consciousness. The more we think like that the more Maya devi ‘helps’ us by turning our consciousness remote from Krsna.
This is as far as I can understand the philosophy Prabhu.I hope that I was of some help.

      Hare krsna!
      Krsna Chaitanya das
